Kitchen

This kind of clutter makes me both happy and a little bit nervous. I love the half painted cupboards and the Piet Hein Eek high chair (of course).

weekend

It has been a slow and hot weekend. In a couple of days the lilac blooming will be over and that's always kind of sad to me. I have been wandering in my garden smelling them and taking pictures. When we wake up, their scent fill our bedroom. It's so precious. I wonder if I would love them this intensly if they lasted longer? I also want to wish all new visitors coming from Desire to Inspire welcome to my blog. I hope you'll find it worth your time.

first rose

It is friday and I wish you all a happy weekend. Before I go, the first rose in my garden burst (is that really the right word?) today. It's Nevada and I remember this from November. It's finally summer!!

tolix

We have a Tolix stool. I often sit on it while blogging, like this. When we bought it the different color options overwhelmed us and we didn't quite agree on wich one we should buy. One of us wanted a red or a yellow and the other one wanted a steel one. When seeing these images, maybe we should have chosen a white one.

art

I think the display of the art in this Italian apartment is very inspiring. Above doors, down by the floor, on the kitchen tiles...It looks casual and yet very carefully thought-out.

corner view - cityscapes - stockholm

Södermalm, Stockholm. I don't live here myself but it's definetely my favourite part of Stockholm. If I have had the opportunity this week to take a more overlooking photo of Stockholm you would have seen all the water surrounding the city.

weekend

I have dirt under my nails and mud up to my knees. The squash is finally out in the garden and now I am just hoping that the temperature will stay above zero. The tomatoes and the chillis are not ready to be outside during the nights yet so we carry them in and out. It would be ok if it wasn't for me using some kind of super soil. The plants grow very fast but our house smells like a farm.

reading

I love this room. Sometimes I find it hard to describe or even understand what it is that I love about an interior. It's not the separate things filling it. I guess it's more of a feeling. This room to me is very inviting, bright and calm. It made me think of reading. And speaking of reading, I love this collection of short stories edited by Jeffrey Eugenides. The preface by Eugenides, where he describes his selection and his thoughts about what a love story is, is amazing. Have you read Middlesex or The Virgin Suicides? Brilliant.
Have a happy weekend everyone!

corner view - coffee - Stockholm

This is a typical coffee saturday for me. With hot foamed milk in the morning. After lunch, black from thermos on the stand watching my daughter ride. Late afternoon black cup with apple and rhubarb pie. The only cup missing is the after dinner one. Also black. I think this is representative for most Swedes. I read somewhere that the only people drinking more coffee than we are the Finns. Also, people drink almost all their coffee at home or at work. Most people use coffee machines/brewers (i am not sure of the right english word) to make their coffee. Personally, I love a double espresso with lots of sugar but I havn't yet found the best way to make it at home. I am and have never been a dunker. Two coffees with milk, please in Swedish is två kaffe med mjölk, tack.

beautiful home

I love the colors and the industrial feeling of this home. The little details like the golden bulb by the bed in the green room, the mix of chairs, stools and floor cushions in the living room. And the soft living room curtains against the concrete roof. I think it's a dutch home but my french is not reliable. Not at all.

garden stool

The Toadstool, by Joe Nunn. Originally created for the designer's grandad. I love the idea and the thought of the wood aging together with the garden and the gardener.

weekend

I am sitting in my kitchen listening to the snoring of my feverish daughter. She is sleeping on the sofa and she and I will have to stay at home tomorrow. I am kind of looking forward to it. Except for the fever we've had a wonderful weekend. I am a little stressed by the rapidly growing weeds in the garden but I choose to focus on the apple-blossom and the lilacs in bloom. Note to self: do not sow squash to early. It's a jungle.

I wouldn't mind spending my summers in this cottage by the sea on Gotland, a swedish island in the Baltic Sea.

corner view - the great outdoors

For this weeks theme I've chosen some images from last summer. They are all except the last one from my favourite place on earth - a cabin by the sea in the south of Sweden. The last image shows our patio last june.
