in the garden

The sun is shining from a clear blue sky, the sea is lukewarm and I spend my days and evenings in the garden or at the beach. There's no time to search the web for interiors and design right now. Instead I've been documenting my garden days and if you like you are very welcome to visit me in my garden. I'll be posting here too but maybe not with the same regularity as usual. My garden blog is a newborn and I am not even sure wich language I will write in. Maybe I'll just mix. Anyway, if you have the time, please stop by. Malo in the garden.

Oh, how I love this. I have never thought of hanging a basket on the wall before. Brilliant.

Bruno Mathsson

We went to Kosta, Småland to see the row houses designed by Bruno Mathsson in 1955. Origianally they where built for the glassworkers. The houses were left to decay but a couple of years ago they were restored. In the restoration they collected pieces from all the houses to recreate one house to its original look.
Unfortunately, we didn't know that an inside showing had to be booked so we just had to lurch outside. My bad photos don't give this genious architect justice. I am so impressed and amazed by what a human being can accomplish. In every detail these houses are perfect.

in the mail!!

I got home today and was so happy to find this in the mail. It's a Wallpaper City Guide and two beautiful photographs by Kristina from No Penny For Them. She had a giveaway a couple of weeks ago celebrating her first vacation in years and I won!!! It was amazing to find this lovely parcel in the mail. Beautifully wrapped, a gorgeous card and the City Guide is fantastic. Now I am very eager to go to Venice but first I want to visit Berlin. If you visit Kristina's blog Mostly Berlin you will see why. Her photos and the way she describes her city is so very inspiring.
If you havn't already, make sure to visit Kristina:

measure

When I was little my parents measured our growth using a book, a pencil and a yardstick. We had a special wall in the kitchen to mark our lenght and I remember it with much joy. So far I have done the same with my kids but I have wanted something more permanent. A more obvious place. I found these measuring sticks (each 50 cm) on Granit and bought four of them. Then we cut them a little to make them right and just glued them to the wall. Our kids are enthusiastic and I feel grateful and humble over how little it takes to make them happy.
How do you keep track of your children's growth?

painted lamp

I like this idea to make a lamp more personal. Letting your kids decorate the shades. My kids would love a task like this. Maybe love it more than I could handle.

wallpaper

We're thinking about wallpaper for the wall with the two windows (the window with the blue curtain is in the kitchen). It's hard because we don't want it to be too decorative if that make sense to anyone. And not to dominant or pale either. These are nice.

summer house

Summer house in Denmark. I love the soft colors and the old wood. The Hans J Wegner rocking chair is standing in the middle like he owned the place. And he does.

house

Great Stockholm house. I love the facade, tared pine and zinc. The interior is also very beautiful with the black stair case and the red/orange details.
By architects Annica Carlsson and Stefan Sjöberg who also live in the house.

corner view - out your back door - stockholm

The two first pictures are from today. Rainy and cold. And also, the same view a couple weeks ago when the apple trees in our garden blossomed. Last, one of our rose bushes in full bloom. We have like 30 different sorts of roses in our small garden. It may sound romantic and beautiful and that was of course the plan but I never seem to find enough time to take care of them. They look overgrown and some of them untidy and not romantic at all. But they smell good.

some kitchens

These kitchens are from Stockholm apartments that have been on the market recently. It turns out we are not the only ones to go with white tiles.

weekend

Not so much garden as planned. We went to a flea market instead and found a living room table and a small Babar. And it only took us three years to choose white standard tiles for the kitchen. We're so adventurous.

view

I am sitting by the computer, answering some mails and listening to music, when I raise my head, this is what I see. I am amazed and grateful. This season is the best.
Excuse the lilac repeating but do not worry - any day now they are but a memory.

garden plans

This weekend I plan to go to either Zetas or Ulriksdal for garden inspiration. I am going to buy some pelargoniums wich is a summer must to me. I also want to buy flowers for this year's porch pots. Usually I mix three different kinds of flowers in each pot but this year I want to group pots and plant one sort in each. Like in the last picture. The colors I am after this year is dark green (Ivy, Rosemary), purple and white. Maybe some pink too. I hope the visit to the garden centre will give me some surprising ideas. Have a happy weekend everyone!
