declutter

It has been unusually hot here in Stockholm the past week. Outside everything is bursting. Lilacs, apple blossom, hagberry. The scent in the air is almost overwhelming. Inside I am struggeling with too much stuff. Clothes, books, magazines, toys, blankets, piles of fabric....feels like I am drowning. I dusted all the books in our biggest book shelf this week and when done I didn't feel like putting them all back up again. I felt sort of free with all that new shelf space. First I thought of giving the books away but then I decided to keep them in our garden shed while figuring out what to do with them.
What do you do with books you've read and enjoyed but know you won't read again? If you have limited space like me? And while I am asking, my husband and I debated about how long one should keep Deco mags. We compromised on saving the ones from two years back.
Happy weekend to you all.

new shelves

I've blogged about how we use the Ikea Bekväm shelves for our kids pens before, here. They are from the kitchen department and cost less than $3. They come in rough pine - very easy to paint. Now we've got them over our desk too.
When we renovated our kitchen four years ago we placed the sink in front of the window which left a dead space behind the sink against the window. An ideal place for a herb shelf. Finally done.

organize

Yes, like I wrote in my last post, organization is on my mind right now. This is part of our small hallway. The clipboards are for all the papers that travel to and from our kid's activities. I can't count how many different systems we've tried in the past. We'll see if this will work. We built the shelf for gloves and stuff last year and today I painted it. The shelf is divided into different compartments to help the kids sort their own mittens, caps, etcetera. I thought it would be fun for them to draw their names so I used chalkboard paint on the front.
It looks like we run a nursery. If it works, I can live happily with that.

storage

What a stylish and clever solution to a tricky storage problem. The pictures and the brains belongs to Cindy Ellen Russell. I recommend a visit to her flickr. She has organized and decorated a beautiful craft room. Don't miss the garden!

Lego

From one subject to another. If you are a parent and havn't yet color sorted your childrens Lego, I strongly advice you to. Time to read the paper in bed increases significantly.

Hookmaker

I really like this. We've been obsessing over tiles for the kitchen since forever and this is what I want (that is tonight anyway - I have a very hard time deciding in this specific question). Just plain white tiles and some of these.
Design Glut.
By the way, I've decided to try to write in english. My excuses in advance to all natural born english speakers out there because i will certainly - and probably already have - mistreat your mother tounge. And please, feel free to correct me. Happy, happy as I am for every sign of a reader - and a chance to develop my english.

Hallhyllor

Den här hyllkonstruktionen var väl smart. Jag skulle inte vilja ha den i ek (eller något annat träslag - möjligtvis obehandlad furu) men kanske i någon fin färg. Kanske blå som tavlan på den övre bilden. Från Holedesign.
